Allihies is a beautifully wild part of the peninsula, and many artists are drawn to its rugged beauty. In the mountains overlooking the village can be found disused copper mines. The North Engine was recently restored. Open mine shafts are these days protected with new fencing. In Cluin village there is an insight into how the mines operated called Allihies Copper Mines Museum which also offers refreshments. Ballydonegan Beach is popular during the Summer for swimmers, and also those wishing to pitch tents or set up their caravans.
