Eyeries

The picturesque village of Eyeries, winner of the Tidy Town Award, has been described as being like colourful kites in a Summer sky

The village stands on a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It has featured in several films including 'The Purple Taxi' with Fred Astaire. 'Falling for a Dancer' with Colin Farrell

In mid July each year there is the Eyeries Family Festival with live music and things to do for all the family

Eyeries is also home to Anam Cara Artist & Writers Retreat where people come from all over the World to immerse themselves in writing and painting workshops

There are two pubs O'Sheas and Causkeys, and a fabulous restaurant Rhonwen's Eyeries Bistro. Bingo is held in the Community Hall by the football pitch on Thursday 8.30pm

Outside O'Sheas Bar, and the Eyeries Bistro, the road winds up to the church and Causkeys Bar then on to the Post Office Eyeries church in the centre of the village across from Causkey's Bar

Allihies

Known by some as the Mines, a reference to the copper mines that provided employment for many a hundred years ago. People worked in very rough conditions, for very little money. A visit to the Mines Museum is a must for any visitor. Allihies also hosts the Michael O'Dwyer tin whistle festival each June, and has a famous horse race on August 15th each year

Glengarriff

The town is at the entrance to the Beara Peninsula southern shoreline that follows Bantry Bay. It has a distinctly tropical flavour with many palm trees and Italian Gardens on Garnish Island. It has a superb golf course and several top quality hotels and places to stay. For many years it was the home of Irish film star Maureen O'Hara. Large ocean going cruise liners often call in, like Club Med 2 below left which called in during 2014
